Skylight installation is a roofing job, not a window job. It requires cutting through your roof deck sheathing, framing a structural curb between the trusses or rafters, and building a weatherproof barrier with flashing, underlayment, and sealant. Roanoke Roofing & Maintenance has been installing skylights in Roanoke for 18 years โ every one leak-free.
Tubular skylights are the alternative for spaces where a full skylight isn't practical โ small bathrooms, closets, interior hallways. A 10-inch or 14-inch dome on the roof captures daylight through a reflective tube that channels it to a ceiling diffuser. Smaller roof penetration, simpler flashing, and effective daylighting in spaces a traditional skylight can't reach.
Our Skylight Installation Process
Skylight Planning
Our estimator visits your Roanoke home, inspects the attic framing, and recommends skylight size, type, and placement. We show you product options โ fixed, vented, tubular โ and provide a detailed written estimate.
Curb Construction
We cut the roof deck opening through the sheathing and shingles, then frame a structural curb between the rafters with doubled lumber. Headers distribute the load around the opening. The curb provides a solid, level base for the skylight unit.
Weather Barrier
Full flashing system: ice-and-water shield base layer, step flashing and counter-flashing on all four sides, woven into the existing shingle field. Water flows over the flashing and onto the shingles below โ never behind them.
Completion
Unit installed and sealed. Light shaft insulated and trimmed. We verify the seal from inside the attic โ if we can see any daylight at the flashing joints, we re-seal before we leave. Your skylight is watertight and energy-efficient.

Why Choose Roanoke Roofing & Maintenance for Skylight Installation?
Code Compliant
Every skylight installation meets AL building code for structural framing, energy performance, and egress requirements. Permits pulled when required.
Insulated Light Shafts
Every skylight installation includes rigid foam insulation around the light shaft. Uninsulated shafts cause condensation and energy loss. We insulate, vapor-seal, and trim the interior for a finished look.
Structural Curb Framing
We frame a proper structural curb between your rafters with doubled headers. No flimsy brackets or foam shims. The curb carries the skylight load and provides a solid base for the flashing system.
Leak-Free Guarantee
Every skylight gets ice-and-water shield, step flashing on all four sides, counter-flashing, and sealant at every transition. Verified from inside the attic before we leave. If it leaks, we fix it free.
